CSMA Club History
The Civil Service Motoring Association was formed in 1923. The intent was to enable Civil Servants with an enthusiasm for Motoring and Motor Sports to enjoy their interests in a ‘Club’ environment and to gain the benefit of their collective ‘buying power’ to provide cheap oil & petrol, spares and insurance.
The expertise, acumen and team-spirit of the Members and their chosen Leaders grew this enterprise into a significant, ‘not-for-profit’ business that by the end of the 20th Century comprised some 8 separate companies with a Group turnover of some £40M, employing over 350 people and a subscribing Membership of over 300,000 eligible Members.
