Renault brings Twingo Dynamique to UK market

Renault has announced details of its New Twingo – £10,350 on the road for the Dynamique 1.2 16V 75 and a clear sign that Renault wants back the cutesy/chic market it courted with the pre-2008 model.

The original Twingo was never marketed in the UK although plenty were brought over here – you might recall its achingly sweet little face with half-moon eyes. But Renault was outstripped in the funkiness stakes by cars like Smart, and most notably the Fiat 500 – living proof that seductive city car styling can attract volume sales AND a premium price.

Renault wants those extra profits back. The publicity for the latest Twingo talks about its “expressive, appealing front end”,  “playful character”, and “bubbly side”. Some of the trumpeted features include roof decals, personalised colouring of door mirrors and mouldings, a new customisation website – even ‘eyelids’ on the headlights. Nostalgic devotees of the original Twingo will feel their heartstrings being tugged.

And as we reported in December, despite Renault making big cutbacks in its UK range, Twingo is one of the four remaining models it will concentrate on over here – Renault really wants us Brits to love this car.

And maybe we will. Standard kit includes cruise control, speed limiter, Bluetooth and, from March, USB connectivity. The audio system has been upgraded. Cost options include climate control, electric panoramic sunroof (and fabric version from April), and iPod-compatible radio with GPS navigation through an app which can also analyse eco-performance in real time.

What’s more, the Twingo Dynamique 1.2 16V 75 promises 55.4mpg Combined, and CO2 emissions of just 119g/km.
