Comprehensive car insurance
Comprehensive car insurance covers accidental damage caused to your car as well as damage and/or injury you cause another vehicle or its driver in an accident. It also covers your car if it is damaged by fire or stolen and not recovered.
Third Party Fire and Theft car insurance
Covers damage or injury you cause to another vehicle and/or its driver. It also covers loss of or damage to your car through fire or theft. It doesn't cover your own vehicle if it's damaged in an accident.
Third Party only car insurance
Covers damage or injury you cause to another vehicle and/or its driver. It doesn't cover damage to, or loss of your vehicle.

If I have a claim for windscreen damage, does it affect my No Claim Discount?
No, windscreen claims will not affect your car insurance No Claim Discount.
Do I have to pay the excess towards a Third Party claim?
No, you only need to pay the excess towards your own repairs.

In the past couple of years I have commented on the rising cost of motor insurance. But I take it all back now because I renewed my policy in December 2012 and for the third year running my renewal premium has come down in price. “Just over a year ago, I was unfortunate and foolish enough to be involved in a road traffic collision. Damage to both cars was fairly extensive but a call to LV= Frizzell was all that was needed to get repairs underway. My car was collected the following day and a much needed courtesy car provided. Unlike many examples of those employed in the motor trade that I have encountered, the mechanics were models of communication. I was kept up to date with regular progress reports and, when they said they would phone on a certain day, they actually did! The car was returned promptly, looked immaculate and over the last year has driven perfectly.
Following the incident a series of most unpleasant solicitors letters and court summon started to arrive, claiming damage to third parties and so on. I called LV= Frizzell and was told not to worry and to send all the correspondence to them.
A little while later, I was arranging insurance for my other (classic) car and needed to know the extent of my recent claim. A quick enquiry by e-mail to LV= revealed that the total cost was a 5-figure sum. Despite my guaranteed no-claims bonus and this being my first major claim in over 50 years, my cynical mind fully expected LV= to find some loophole and increase my premium. Sure enough, come my renewal notice, they did…by 72 pence!
